Bulimia Nervosa: Signs and Symptoms

Bulimic, is what best describes a person who is experiencing a Bulimia Nervosa. This kind of eating disorder is characterized by repeated binge eating. There are several signs on how to consider that a person is suffering a Bulimia Nervosa.

  • Secrecy surrounding eating. Going to the kitchen after everyone else has gone to bed. Going out alone on unexpected food runs. Wanting to eat in privacy.
  • The most common form, practiced by a bulimic person is self-induced vomiting almost 75% of them are doing this.
  • Excessive use of laxatives, enemas and diuretics, this is for the purging cycle of a bulimic person.
  • During an average binge, a bulimic consumes 3,000 to 5,000 calories in one short hour which took place for twice a week or even more with no obvious change in weight.
  • Over exercising and strict diet, they are afraid to get fat after binge eating or inappropriate behavior to prevent weight gain; this is also one of the natural behavior of a bulimic person.

It is quite difficult to spot a bulimic because they seem to act as a normal person, happy and beautiful. But deep inside they feel anger, anxiety, depressed and ashamed. There are no claims for any Bulimia medical treatment but we can help them control their anxiety and guilt by spending time with them creating a healthy relationship with food and health fitness. Bulimic persons don’t need any medical treatment; they just need some love, care and understanding most especially from their loved ones. The cure to this disorder is not medicine but the people close to them.
